Bad breath, generally known as Halitosis, is a common but unpleasant and embarrassing condition that affects many people. The most common causes of halitosis are poor oral hygiene and certain foods or drinks. If you don’t brush and floss frequently, Plaque, a tiny film of bacteria, forms on your teeth. Over a period of time, Plaque causes a bad odour and tooth decay if it is not removed by dental professionals.

However, before visiting your dentist, consider making tiny adjustments and using at-home remedies for foul breath. Here are a few simple home remedies for curing bad breath.

1) Maintain good  Dental hygiene Practices

Maintaining good dental hygiene practices is essential for keeping teeth and gums healthy and combating bad breath. Plaque accumulation and other issues that might result in halitosis are caused by poor oral hygiene, which encourages the growth of germs in the mouth. Regular brushing and flossing can help eliminate the germs and food particles that cause bad breath. Additionally, scheduling routine cleanings and examinations at the dentist’s office might aid in resolving issues before they worsen.

2) Water

Studies show that saliva is essential for preserving oral health. Bacteria will grow rapidly when saliva production has decreased. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily helps to increase the saliva and flush out the bacteria and food particles that can cause bad breath while keeping the mouth moist and preventing dryness.

3) Orange

Oranges are high in vitamin C, which has been proven to be effective at reducing oral bacteria. Additionally, the fiber content in oranges promotes saliva production, which can help to wash away bacteria and food particles that contribute to bad breath.

4) Green Tea

Research shows green tea possesses antiseptic and deodorizing qualities that temporarily improve breath. Green mint tea may be the best breath refresher because mint has similar benefits.

5) Homemade mouthwash with baking soda

While having bad breath can be unpleasant and painful, it shouldn’t be a constant issue. Baking soda mouthwash is a simple, efficient solution to eliminate foul breath. The antibacterial properties of baking soda aid in the neutralization of the oral germs that contribute to bad breath. Additionally, It also helps to remove plaque and debris from the teeth, which can contribute to bad breath.

6)  Fennel or Anise Seeds

Studies have shown that baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, can effectively kill bacteria in the mouth. So Fennel or Anise Seeds are natural remedies that have been used for centuries to help combat bad breath. These seeds contain essential oils that have powerful antibacterial properties, which can help to kill off the bacteria that cause bad breath.

Additionally, roasted fennel seeds are still used as mouth fresheners to freshen their breath after meals. They have a sweet flavor and include fragrant essential oils that make the breath smell fresh.

7)  Salt water rinse

A simple rinse with warm salt water can help you get rid of bad breath quickly and easily. Saltwater helps to break down bacteria in the mouth that cause bad breath while also helping to reduce inflammation and swelling in the gums and throat. Additionally, warm salt water can help soothe sore throats and reduce inflammation in the sinuses.

Bottom line

If you have bad breath, you may feel self-conscious and uneasy when talking to others. The issue of foul breath has both permanent and temporary treatments. These home remedies for bad breath will hold you for short periods. However, if you continue to think your breath smells bad and it isn’t getting better, you should consult a doctor.
