3 Steps to Clean Your Electric Toothbrush
If you’re someone who just jumped into the bandwagon of switching to electric toothbrushes, then you might also need to look at the after care of these gadgets. Unlike regular toothbrushes, electric ones need special care in order to prolong their life and improve their performance.
If you start noticing any unpleasant odour coming from your toothbrush, it’s high time you take them up for a squeaky clean routine. For those who are in the crossroads of finding the perfect way to clean their toothbrushes, here’s a simple 3 way technique to clean your electric toothbrush.
1) Cleaning Head
Even though these are water resistant, one needs to go the extra mile to make sure they are safe during the contact with water as they are still an electrical device.
The first step in cleaning starts with cleaning the head of the brush. It is very important to replace the head every once or twice in 3 months since these are the hotspots for bacteria to cultivate and develop.
How to Clean Toothbrush Head?
Bleach and water does wonders to your toothbrushes head. Once a month wash it with a mix of bleach and water gently. Take a large bowl, big enough for the head of the brush to be submerged completely. Now mix 10 cups of water with one cup of bleach and mix them well.
Now submerge your head completely in the container. Let it sit for one hour as the bleach will work its way to the head thus completely disinfecting the head off any bacteria formed.
After an hour, take the head and wash it in the running water to make sure the bleach is completely washed away from the body. Now use a clean cloth to wipe the head.
2) Cleaning The Handle:
Step1: Using Damp Cloth
Use a clean cotton cloth and damp them gently in warm water. Now clean the handle of the toothbrush gently.
Step 2: Cleaning the Grooves and Ridges
Now use a regular toothbrush with soft bristles to clean between the grooves in the brush handles. Use a damp cloth to remove any excess water from the regular brush bristle to ensure there’s no excess water in contact with the handle.
Step 3: Wipe with Clean Cloth
Now fix the head to the body of the electric toothbrush and wipe it with a clean dry cloth. Do not use any alcohol or antibacterial solution to clean the toothbrush.
3) Cleaning the Electric Toothbrush Everyday
Is it necessary to clean your electric toothbrush everyday? Well, with gentle water you can rinse the toothbrush handle and head everytime once done using it. This will ensure your brush is clean and free from any bacteria. This will also make sure your toothbrush is fresh and does not give out any foul odor.
Another useful tip in maintaining the life of your electric toothbrush is to avoid pressing the bristles a little too hard against the tooth. This does not only damage your teeth but also reduces the life of the brushes’ head on the longer run.
Also try keeping your toothbrush upright everytime you are done with your brushing. This will make sure they are drip dried better than any other positions.
Bottom line
Taking good care of your electric toothbrush can not only help prolong life but also increase the efficiency of it thus helping you to keep a clear and clean dental health.
